Introduction#
These guidelines are for organisations that need to publish IATI data as a requirement for their funder. They have been developed in consultation with the following organisations:

Netherlands - Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Sweden - International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida)
United Kingdom - Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)
These guidelines help you understand what information to publish, how to organise your data, and where to find answers to common questions.
What is the International Aid Transparency Initiative?#
The International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) is a global initiative to improve the transparency and accountability of funding for international development and humanitarian activities.
The IATI website is a good place to visit for a general introduction to IATI, its data and uses.
Why is data publishing important?#
The IATI Standard allows any organisation involved in international development to publish information on funded activities, partners, location, results, transactions and relevant documents.
Anyone can explore and use this information to help inform decisions and reduce duplication of effort.
Data publishers can use IATI to connect their internal data and make it easier to analyse. Publishing also raises the visibility of your organisation and its work.
Governments of developing countries can integrate IATI data into their national financial systems, giving them timely, forward-looking, and detailed information on the resources flowing into their country to address poverty and crises.
Civil society organisations can use IATI data to hold authorities accountable, avoid duplicating services, and direct local people to other organisations that can help them.
