2) Do these requirements only apply to activities that are funded by a donor that requires IATI publishing?#

Consult your agreement with your funder to understand their exact expectations around IATI publishing.

Typically, the IATI publishing requirement applies only to activities funded by the relevant donor. However, we strongly encourage partners to publish IATI data on all of their humanitarian and development activities, not just the ones required by your funder.

Making your whole portfolio available is the best way to make use of IATI data for collaboration with other organisations and to make the information you publish valuable and usable.

3) How should sensitive data be treated?#

Some activities may involve sensitive information. In such cases, parts of the data may need to be excluded or adapted to ensure safety while still keeping the information useful. Sometimes, the entire activity may need to be excluded.

Each partner organisation is responsible for deciding what information can and cannot be published.

There are many ways of adapting data to remove sensitive details, including:

  • Removing or anonymising the name of the implementing or funding organisation

  • Publishing a recipient region instead of a specific country

  • Adjusting the activity title or description

Personal information covered under GDPR, such as names of individuals, must never be published.

You may wish to discuss exclusion of information with your funder.

4) How do I publish my activity spend?#

There are two types of financial information for activities - ‘budgets’ and ‘transactions’.

Transactions have a date in the past and can be labelled as different types.

  • ‘Disbursements’ are the transfer of funds to another organisation and should typically not be aggregated.

  • ‘Expenditure’ can be aggregated and published as a single ‘expenditure’ transaction per quarter.

5) Which currency should I use?#

You can report financial information in the currency of your choice. Our recommendation is to report all amounts in the currency in which the actual transaction took place.

6) Which data licence should I select?#

As an open data standard, IATI requires you to publish your data under an open licence. This allows others to freely use it, supporting transparency and efficiency in development and humanitarian work.

Read more about how to license your data and the different options here.

7) Can I publish IATI data on behalf of another organisation?#

Generally, we recommend that each organisation is responsible for publishing and maintaining its own IATI data.

If you need to publish on behalf of another organisation, contact the IATI Secretariat for advice on the publishing options available.
